Wesley Stuart Holmes Jr.

Wesley graduated from Murphy High School in 1945 and from Auburn University in 1951 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was the 10th generation in his family to go to sea and when he “came ashore” he worked at a family business, Holmes & Company, that was primarily involved with ocean going ships. In his later years, Wesley would often recount, in great detail, his trips at sea. Wesley was a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. He sailed for Waterman Steamship Company.

Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley S. Holmes Sr., and Helen Yoxall Holmes, and his children, Judith H. Lee, and Norman E. Holmes. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Jane B. Holmes, his son, David W. Holmes, his daughter, Patricia H. Bailey, his six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Wesley loved and cared for his family, and he was fervent in his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

The funeral service will be at Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama, on Saturday, February 19, 2023, at 11 AM. A visitation before the service will begin at 10 AM. The family will be there to welcome friends and relatives.
