Loretta was born on February 29, 1936 in Prichard, Al to George “Sam” Odom and Helen Taylor Odom.
Loretta loved spending her free time visiting her family and friends and playing cards with her closest cousins Big Dixie and Winnie. She also enjoyed cooking, fishing, crabbing, traveling, and going to yard sales. Her favorite thing to do, however, was to play bingo. Loretta had a special ability of always winning, which led to her earning the title “Bingo Queen” as many would call her.
Loretta is preceded in death by her father George “Sam” Odom, mother Helen Taylor Odom, two daughters Brenda Sue Lassitter and Vivian Lassitter Frederick, brother James Clayton Phillips, aunt Christine Odom, and Walter “Buddy” Caine, her lifelong companion.
Loretta is survived by her loving and dedicated sister, Mary Dennis Odom, her children Silas “William” (Teresa) Lassitter, Annette Lassitter, James “Jimmy” Welch, Nina (John) Dutton, two grandchildren which she raised, Amanda Welch Porter and Jessica Welch, special granddaughter Wendy Bates Shaw and her husband Dale Shaw, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Loretta will be remembered for a lot of things, but she will especially be remembered for her fiery spirit that served to strengthen everyone she met.
A visitation for Loretta will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, AL 36606, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM in the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Serenity Memorial Gardens, Mobile, AL.
