Virginia T. Radney left us on the morning of Tuesday, December 28, 2021. Virginia was the daughter of M.H. Radney and Virginia Radney, the founders of Radney Funeral Home in Mobile. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Grover Radney; her husband, Forrest Crabtree, and her son, Baby Crabtree. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen A. Raffaelli and Dana Raffaelli of Alexandria, Virginia, her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Ann Prazak and Jonathan Prazak of Texarkana, Texas, her three grandchildren, Trey Raffaelli (9), Celia Prazak (5), and Esme Prazak (3), her nephew, Hunter Radney of Mobile, Alabama, and her niece, Elise Radney of Waynesboro North Carolina.
Born and raised in Mobile, Virginia spent her childhood summers in Healing Springs in Washington County, Alabama in the town now known as Millry. She was a graduate of Murphy High School and then Auburn University where she received a B.S. in Elementary Education in March 1968. She later attended Texas State University where she received a M.E. in May 1978. At Auburn she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority where she made lasting friendships. After Auburn, Virginia moved to England, became a schoolteacher, and taught the Montessori method of learning. Upon her return to the States, Virginia became a dedicated Mother who focused all that knowledge and expertise on the raising and development of her own children. And once her children gave her grandchildren, “Gigi” went back to work with the same vigor, knowledge, and love until she was called Home.
Virginia was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and loved singing in the choir.
Virginia will be missed dearly by all who knew her. She lived her life as a gracious lady – always showing genuine concern for others and an unflinching devotion to her Savior. She knew the recipe for happiness: the Lord, her children, her grandchildren, her family and friends, and Auburn football.
Visitation will be on Monday, January 3rd, 2022 at the Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 11:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Chapel at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
