Dr. Vann D. Cockrell, 68, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2013. The oldest of five children to Dr. R. Van and Betty Cockrell, Vann joined his father’s dental practice in 1970 and together with his youngest brother practiced dentistry at Cockrell Dental Office for 43 years.
Vann is survived by his best friend and devoted wife of 47 years, Lynda Cockrell; two daughters and their husbands, Terra (Paul) Mavrakos and Windy (Toby) Bitzer; and four beautiful grandchildren, Alex, Madelyn, and Molly Mavrakos and Sophie Bitzer. He is also survived by his sister, Debbie (Byron) Streifling; three brothers, Gary (Karen) Cockrell, Dr. Randy (Ann) Cockrell, and Dr. Kevin (Bonnie) Cockrell; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
Dr. Cockrell was a strong, committed Christian and lived his life full of faith in God and in service to others. He deeply loved and cherished his family and delighted in times spent together. His relationships with his patients and dedicated staff also brought him great joy.
A Memorial Service will be held from the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 3 p.m. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America at www.ccfa.org.
