Thomas Kenny Pennington, FSA, 1935-2011, 75, of Mobile, AL, died Friday, February 5 of complications following heart surgery. He was a retired actuary and insurance executive, most notably having worked as Senior Vice President at Protective Corporation in Birmingham, Alabama, from 1970 to 1986, and as President at Laurentian Capital in Mobile. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Jane Pennington; his sons, Tom Pennington, Jr., Dale Kevin Pennington and Patrick Joseph Pennington; daughters Dr. Mary Jane Pennington and Meli Helene Pennington, as well as sons-in-law Dr. Michael Keene and Brian Bothwell; grandchildren, Jennifer Keene, Kelly Keene and Patricia Keene. He was the last surviving brother of Dr. Dale Pennington and M. Basil Pennington, OCSO. Born in Brooklyn, NY June 2, 1935, he graduated from Fordham University in 1958. He moved to Birmingham, AL, in 1970 to work at Protective Corporation, where he established its acquisitions division. In Birmingham he was also an active parishioner at St. Francis Xavier Church. In Mobile he was an actuarial consultant following his time at Laurentian Capital, and enjoyed his semi-retirement as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and occasional world traveler. A wake will be held at Our Savior Catholic Church on Monday, February 7, 2011 from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. There will also be a brief visitation at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 followed by a funeral Mass at 11A.M.at Our Savior Catholic Church.
