Thomas Lloyd Dove “Tommie” passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014. He was a resident of Semmes, AL for 37 years. Born in Meridian, MS in 1933, he moved to Mobile in 1941. He lived in Chickasaw where he went to school through the 3rd grade, and then on to the first classes at Vigor from the 4th through the 8th grade. He graduated from Murphy in the class of 1951 where he was a member of the band.
He was activated with the 31st Dixie Division National Guard during the Korean War where he made rank of Sergeant First Class and served as a Ranger. Upon his discharge, he followed his father into the Iron Workers where he was in Locals 600 and 798. He then went to work at Scott Paper Company which he retired from in 1995 after 27 years, leaving behind a big family of friends.
He was a member of Bowen Masonic Lodge. He loved to hunt and fish, Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Coleman Winfrey Dove and Frances Terrell Dove. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 63 years, Doris Williams Dove, two sons, Ricky and Larry, Daughter-in-law Jana, grandchildren Alexis, Richard, and Sara, two great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Gertrude Millican and Opal Douglas, brother-in-law Clayton Williams along with special friends Charlie and Tammy Tuggle and all of his adopted family from Orchard Baptist Church where he was a member for 34 years, and Semmes First Baptist where he was a member for 8 years. Lastly, his best swing buddy, “Goldie”.
Visitation will be held on Monday January 13, 2014 from 11 to 12:00 PM at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with services in the Chapel at 12 noon. He requested that his favorite gospel song, Amazing Grace, be played, that no flowers be sent, and that you make a donation to your favorite charity.
