Mobile native preceded in death by mother Viola Avinger (Bodie), step father Edwin K Avinger (Blues) both of Mobile, father Asa Lewis of Milton, FL, identical twin Cleveland Lewis (Cleve) Phenix City, sister Keitha Gaines.
He was a Lance Corporal in the USMC earning both crossed pistols and crossed rifles, served at Parris Island, Cherry Point NC, and Iwakuni Japan. He missed going to Vietnam in the first group of Marines as his tour overseas in Japan was almost over. He worked at Alabama Dry Dock after his discharge, then at Sears for 20+ years, married Dec. 7, 1985, and performed with his wife Debra Langford Lewis of STAR KARAOKE. He was quite an accomplished musician and singer. He played softball for various teams, businesses, Westminster Presbyterian Church (his wife's grandmother was a founding member where he had married his wife, youngest 2 children baptized there.) He participated in Mardi Gras, Krewe of Marry Mates.
He passed away peacefully with his wife at his side after 37+ years of marriage. He has 4 children two grandsons. Shannon Lewis Slaten (Perry), son Cameron; Steven G. Lewis (Laura), son Andrew, Amanda/Mandy Lewis Douvier (Joshua), Braydon Parker Lewis (Beth), Sister Laura Avinger (Cleve) Jackson, Julie Avinger Perez (Charles), brother Lee Avinger (Deborah). Several nieces, nephews, relatives.
A visitation for Steven will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama 36605, followed by a funeral service With Military Honors from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. following the funeral service a reception celebrating Steve's life will be in the event room at the funeral home.
