Sara Elizabeth Kent, a native of Vance, AL and a 75-year resident of Mobile, AL, went on to her reward on Tuesday, May 2 after a short illness. Born to Dwight and Sallie Pruett, Sara spent her early years in Vance before moving to Birmingham following graduation. There, she found work as a bookkeeper at a jewelry store, and would later be offered the chance to transfer to Mobile in the same capacity. It was after her move to Mobile that Sara would sow the seeds that would grow into the orchard that bore joyful fruit throughout her life. In Mobile, she met her lifelong friends Blair and Lavaughn, and it was also there that she met the love of her life, a dashing Nova Scotian ship captain named Stanley Kent. The two were married and built a life with one another, raising three children who have gone on to raise and rear families of their own. When Stanley fell ill, Sara found work at the Mobile County Probate Court, from which she retired in 1984. Sara took great pride and joy in her progeny, being blessed with the chance to not only know her grandchildren quite well, but also her great-grandchildren.
Sara is survived by one son, Russell Kent of Townsend, GA; two daughters, Teresa Boone (Rodney) and Cheryle Kent (Sherman Putman), both of Mobile; five grandsons, Evan Duffy (Angela) of Mobile; Mark Boone (Jenny) of Guyton, GA; Brian Kent (Candace) of Register, GA; Darrin Boone of Mobile; and Bradley Duffy (Whitney) of Mobile; five great-grandchildren, Patrick and Grace Duffy; Matthew and Emily Boone; and Hudson Kent; as well as a host of friends and family members whose lives she touched.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Stanley H. Kent; her parents, Dwight and Sallie Pruett; four brothers (Drury, Ellard, Lloyd, Leonard), and one sister (Theodosia); and her dear friends Blair and Jimmy Smith.
Visitation with family and friends will be on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 1-2 p.m., followed immediately by a service at 2 p.m. in the Pine Crest Chapel at Pine Crest Cemetery (1839 Dauphin Island Parkway). Interment will be held afterwards at Pine Crest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of choice in memory of Sara.
