Sammie Partain Cooper, 76, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 in Mobile, Alabama. She was born to David Austin Partain and Eunie Partain on December 21, 1945 in Hayleyville, Alabama. Sammie was a wife, mother, and homemaker – and this is what she preferred most. She maintained a spotless home, and was very specific with organization and home finances. Sammie worked for a short time at Gayfers Department Store in the gift wrapping department (a perfect place for someone so meticulous with how things should be done and cared for!) She had much enjoyment in her years there and made many friends. But family was the most important thing to Sammie, and being home to care for her daughter Kellie. She would have done anything for anyone in her family, and was very instrumental in the care of her siblings’ lives, especially those that needed her at the end of their lives. Sammie welcomed family into her home to stay and be cared for in times of need – whether illness or rough times – she was there. Sammie enjoyed listening to music, and when her children were small, it was common to play Tom Jones or Neil Diamond while house cleaning. She always took an interest in the music her children were listening to, and later came to love the Eagles, Bon Jovi, and many others! She loved old movies, particularly those with Bette Davis. She enjoyed reading during her downtime, until her vision made that difficult. Sammie had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved having her children’s friends stay late into the evening for “nacho night”. She will be missed so very much by those who survived her.
Sammie was preceded in death by her husband, Gerry Gilbert Cooper; daughter, Kellie Ann Cooper; parents, David and Eunie Partain; sisters, Diane Ortega and Brenda Bain; and a brother, Jerry Wayne Partain.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Susan (Steve) Guerin; sister, Susie Taylor and her daughter, Fancy Holdbrooks (Mickey); nieces, Paula Weaver; as well as other cherished family and friends.
Visitation for Sammie will be Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
