Roy Melvin Harris

Mr. Roy Melvin Harris age 89, longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday October 30, 2013 at a local hospital. Mr. Harris is preceded in death by his parents, Roy N. and Alenis Harris and son, Terry Alan Harris. He worked as a jeweler with Goldstein’s Jewelers for over 37 years and retired from The Karat Patch. Mr. Harris was an active member of Government Street Baptist Church for over fifty years, serving as deacon, Sunday School Director, Head of the Brotherhood Committee and serving meals alongside his wife for many years. He was a WWII veteran serving in the Air Force as an instructor pilot. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Hazel Donaldson Harris and son, Henry Eric Harris of Lumberton, Texas. He is also survived by four brothers, Jack Harris and Calvin Harris of Pensacola, FL, Herman Harris of Reno, NV and Selwyn Harris of Arizona. Mr. Harris leaves to cherish his memory grandchildren; Jennifer Harris, Tonya Fenner (Robert), Sean Harris (Casie), Rebecca Beverly (Michael), Susan Jones (Ben), Margaret Morgan (J.R.); and great-grandchildren; Jordan and Cameron Igo, Augustus Alan Jones, Trey Morgan, Windsor Jones, Ella Marie Morgan, Baby Beverly, Zach and Zailey Hidalgo, and Emmy Merrill. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Thursday, October 31, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held from Government Street Baptist Church on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
