Ronald Lee Powell was born March 12, 1944 to the late Alton Lee Powell and Marie Elizabeth Teal Powell McKenzie in Loxley, Alabama. He was called from his earthly home December 10, 2019 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Ronald was baptized at Berean Baptist Church, 3709 Alba Club Road, Mobile, Alabama 36605. He graduated from Murphy High School in 1962. Ronald served this grateful nation by enlisting in the United States Air Force and serving during the years 1963 – 1969. He then went on to graduate from University of South Alabama in 1976 with a degree of Criminal Justice Administration. Ronald retired from the City of Mobile Police Department as Chief of records following many years of dedicated service. He had also worked for the State Parole and Probation and retired from the South Alabama Police Department.
Ronald was a member of the Howard Masonic Lodge #69. He coached little league baseball and football at Trimmier Park. In Ronald’s spare time, he loved watching NASCAR, fishing, Alabama football, Atlanta Braves and Big Boys Toys. He enjoyed a short pot of coffee, hunting, nature, animals, planting and growing plants from seeds. Ronald took delight in history, snorkeling vacationing and loved traveling to several different Sandals resorts with his beloved wife of fifty-three years.
It was evident that he loved his wife and family unconditionally. He loved his physicians, Dr. Donald Sanders and Dr. Michael Sanders.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; Eddie Powell, sister; Glenda Ruby and his father-in-law; George Murrill.
Left to cherish Ronald’s wonderful memories will be his devoted wife; Sue Murrill Powell, two sons: Tommy Powell and wife Lori, Donnie Powell, one brother; Wayne Powell and Jackie, one sister: Donna Powell Merchant and husband Derek, two granddaughters: Cara Powell Stanchio and husband Daniel, Hailee Powell, three great-grandson; Braxton, Asher, Carson, many extended family members and numerous wonderful friends.
Honoring Ronald as pallbearers will be Christopher Murrill, Chip Teal, Kenny Powell, Daniel Stanchio, Collin Leousis and Wayne Antley. Honorary pallbearers will be Zeke Aull, Richard Schuettner, Jim Murrill, Billy Murrill, Johnny Murrill, Michael Owen, many members of fellow law enforcement and community of Mobile.

Celebration of Life service for Ronald Lee Powell, 75, will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 14, 2019 in the chapel of Pine Crest Funeral Home, Mobile, Alabama with Bro. Will Haynes and Chaplain Phillip Snodgrass officiating. Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of Pine Crest Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama.
The family will be accepting guests for visitation Friday December 13, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Pine Crest Funeral Home 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway Mobile, Alabama.
