Captain Robert Edward Barry, 59, passed away after a three and a half month battle with an aggressive form of colorectal cancer. He was born May 3, 1963 in Mobile, AL. Graduating in 1987 with a B.S. degree in Marine Transportation and obtaining an unlimited third mate’s license, he began what would become a life-long career as a merchant mariner. He is preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Matherine Barry; his father, James Edward Barry; and his sister, Tillye Barry Semple. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Michele Ann Finn; his sister, Cynthia Barry Coffman; his brother, Timothy Barry; a brother-in-law, H. Christopher Semple; two nephews, Henry Semple, Jr and William Semple; and a niece, Cullen Coffman Barone. He leaves behind countless shipmates who will remember him with fondness and respect.
