Robert Earl Jerkins, Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 17, 2024. He was 82 years old. Robert was born to John Jerkins and Bertha Johnson Jerkins on August 22, 1942 in Lottie, Alabama. He was a student of Bay Minette High School and attended Tabernacle Baptist College in Greenville South Carolina. Robert served with the United States Army and was a Mason with Guy T Smith Lodge in Mobile, Alabama.
Robert enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also loved talking with his children and his sisters on the phone every day. Robert enjoyed having breakfast and coffee with his friends at Hungry Jack’s restaurant and listened to WTBI (Tabernacle Baptist) radio every morning.
Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior on February 23, 1973, and made it his life’s work to witness and share the glory of God with all he encountered. He was a charter member of Galilee Baptist Church in Easley, South Carolina and Grace Tabernacle Church in Mobile, Alabama. Robert was a hard but compassionate man, who had a heart for God. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley A. Jerkins; parents, John T. Jerkins and Bertha L. Johnson; brothers, Herman Jerkins, Edward Jerkins, and Jesse Jerkins; and one sister, Lucille Gibson.
Robert is survived by his children: Robert E Jerkins Jr. (Paula), Angela D Jerkins, Thomas G. Jerkins, Timmy D. Jerkins (Claudia), Jesse L Jerkins (Sheree); grandchildren Wesley Shelby, Annjelica Henderson (Jason), Bradley Shelby, Fay Santana Forbes, Amanda Wells (Matt), Brittney Foreman, Carl Holcomb, Stephanie Gulley, Sarah Jerkins, Austin Jerkins, Trinity Jerkins, Faith Jerkins, and Ian Jerkins; great-grandchildren, Mason, Chance, Gavin, Mia, Preston, Jacob, Amelia, Bryleigh, Justin, Kayleb, Kayden, Seinna, Carly, Chloe, Tanner, Tyler, and Emery; sisters, Betty Cobb (Dan) and Linda Johnson; brother, Thomas Petty; and other cherished relatives and friends.
Visitation for Robert will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024 at Pine Crest Funeral Home located at 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Alabama 36605 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 in Liberty Cemetery in Stapleton, Alabama at 11AM.
