Robert’s hobbies included watching old west movies, carpentry and building, and watching SEC Football, particularly the Alabama Crimson Tide. Prior to his retirement, he served over 20 years in the Armed Forces, Army Branch. He was particularly proud of his service in combat in the Vietnam War, and received many awards in the military including The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, The Army Service Ribbon, The Overseas Service Ribbon, The Professional Development Ribbon, 2 Army Achievement Medals, and The Good Conduct Medal.
After his service in the military he attended Technical Trades Institute in Colorado Springs, CO where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Engineering Design and Drafting. He then worked as a securities consultant for the United States Government for 5 years.
Robert will be remembered for his quick, witty humor, his outgoing personality, and his ongoing devotion to his Christian faith.
Robert Allen leaves to cherish in their memory, his wife, Ellen Allen, children Kayreen Altman and her husband Michael, the late Rob Allen and his wife Deidre, Melinda Rhodes, and her husband Michael; sister Peggy Brewer and the late Calvin Allen, Olen Allen, Jim Allen, Kenneth Allen, and Billy Allen; grandchildren Alex Butler, Dustin Allen, Lacey Weaver, Jonathan Jeter, and Kyle Atkins; and great grandchild Aurora Johnson.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday, August 21st, from 10:30 until 11am at Radney Funeral Home. A funeral service to honor his life will be held following the visitation at 11am in the chapel. Robert will then go to his final resting place at The Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, AL. There will be a burial service with full honors at the graveside at 2:30 pm.
