He was preceded in death by his wife Suzette Thierry Vickery and his parents, Madge and Richard Vickery.
In 2014, Steve was diagnosed with Stage Four colon cancer. Through the following years, he fought valiantly against recurrences of cancer in his liver, lungs, and brain. Throughout his grueling treatments he was surrounded by his loving family. Each one strove to provide spiritual, emotional, and physical support. He was gifted with a precious wife in Diane who added to the support group bringing love and joy with her.
As Steve faced each new challenge, he drew closer and closer to the Lord he loved so much. His life, and ultimately his death, were a testimony of the power of God’s unfailing love for him. As he dealt with the unpleasantness of cancer treatment, the Light of Christ within him never dimmed. He was always a blessing and encouragement. His primary goal was to introduce others to the Jesus he loved.
Steve was a talented craftsman. Professionally he was a master brick mason. Upon retirement, his hobby of wood turning produced countless treasures now gracing the homes of family and friends.
The final gift Steve left for all of us was his appreciation of even the most minor blessing. He showed us how to live and ultimately how to die.
A celebration of life will be held at Government Street Baptist Church on Saturday, January 2nd, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
