Rebecca Cora Scott – A resident of Mobile, AL, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010, at her home after a long illness at the blessed age of 87. She was the sixth child of seven children born to Robert and Sarah Deal of Plateau, AL. She met her husband, Edward Scott, and married him in Apalachicola, FL on March 25, 1941. They later returned to Plateau, AL and became members of Union Baptist Church where she became a member of the choir. Most importantly, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Rebecca was a housewife, devoted to her husband of 69 years and a devoted mother to her seven children. Her life and conversations mostly centered around her family. She always put her husband and children before herself. Not only did she and her family go on many vacations and picnics together (as most families do) but time was set aside once a week for family night where the family came together and entertained one another (what they called, “Non-Talent” shows). This tradition continued into the senior years of her children. After her children became older and/or left home, she occasionally traveled with her husband, Edward Scott, who was a baseball scout for the Boston Red Sox. This included cruises, World Series baseball games, Senior Bowl games, and many get-a-way trips for rest and relaxation. She and her husband both enjoyed gardening. As one passed their house, they could not help but notice the beautiful yard and the gardening skills of “Ed” and “Beck”. Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Scott, Sr.; her parents, Robert and Sarah Deal; three sisters, Ruby Hall, Marcella Rodgers and Odell Knight; and two brothers, Robert Deal and Frederick Deal. She is survived by her seven children, Edward (Freddie Mae) Scott, Jr. of Spanish Fort, AL, Annye Scott Burnett of Fontana, CA, Hazel Scott Veal of Atlanta, GA, Bernice Scott Smith, Alexander Scott, Sr., Barbara Scott Martin, and John Scott, all of Mobile, AL. She is also survived by one brother, Melvin Deal of St. Louis, MO; one brother-in-law, John E. Scott of Stuart, FL; twenty-seven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. A private graveside service was held on Saturday, October 2, 2010. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com.
