Entered the fullness of life on his 91st birthday, January 21, 2021
Ray was born in Fort Rittner, Indiana, son of Milton and Lizzie Horner. He graduated from Tunnelton High School. He joined the U.S. Naval Reserve for two years and joined the U.S. Coast Guard and served for three years. He served most of the years in Mobile where he met and married Jewel Dozier, January 9, 1953. Ray had six brothers and one sister, James (Frances), Helen (Robert), Roy (Gwen), George (Mary), Ernest (Pat), Gene (Betty).
Ray and Jewel moved to Indianapolis, Indiana and attended Robert Park United Methodist Church for 15 years. They moved back to Mobile in 1968.
They had 3 children, Sylvia Sellers of Mobile, Robert (Laurie) Horner of Mobile, Jerry Horner (Peggy) of Mobile. They had 5 grandchildren, Heather (William) McConnell of Montgomery, Alabama, Jennifer (Wilson) Holifield of Birmingham, Alabama, Chris (Suzanne) Horner of Salem, West Virginia, David Horner of Mobile, Michael Horner of Mobile; eight great-grandchildren, Sellers and Mary Jane McConnell, Cameron Holifield, Nathan, Lexie, Devon, Jasmine, and Gabe Horner.
Ray and Jewel owned and operated Horner Electric Company, Inc. for 32 years. They were members of Christ United Methodist Church for over 20 years. They were members of the Seekers Sunday School class. Ray was a member of Loop Masonic Lodge and The Scottish Rite Lodge.
A private service will be held in Ray’s honor in Pine Crest Cemetery.
The Horner family would like to extend their gratitude to Mobile Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, along with the nurses who cared for him, Kiki Carson and hospice nurse Denise Roberson.
