Patricia Murray Smith, affectionately known as "Pat Pat", passed away peacefully in Mobile Alabama, on October 18, 2024, at the age of 82. Pat Pat was born on July 19, 1942, she was a lifelong resident of Mobile, where she dedicated her life to her family, her profession and her community.
Pat Pat enjoyed a fulfilling career as a high school English teacher (mainly at Murphy High School), inspiring countless students over her 30 years of service. She was the editor of the school newspaper and was heavily involved in theatre and was only rivaled by her love for the University of Alabama football, where she cheered for the Crimson Tide with an unwavering spirit.
She was known for her vibrant personality. Pat Pat had a knack for decorating her home for every holiday, transforming her space into an entertaining space full of singing and animated stuffed animals. She took joy in cooking, often preparing meals for family and friends. Pat Pat could frequently be found on her front porch reveling and telling stories and jokes with loved ones and neighbors. One of her old sayings were "What happens on the porch stays on the porch!"
A lover of all things stylish, Pat Pat was known for her matching outfits and earrings, always putting her best foot forward. She cherished her weekly visits to the library, where she was delighted in discovering new books and movies and visiting with the friendly staff. She was never without a martini in hand as she entertained friends and family every evening. She loved her cats, puzzles, the Dew Drop Inn or Roshelle's food to go and Alabama football(Roll Tide). Her loving spirit shone through in her tradition of giving neighborhood kids two pieces of candy whenever they knocked on her door.
Pat Pat was unapologetically honest, a quality that endeared her to many. She leaves behind her beloved son, Timothy Murray Smith and her cherished granddaughter, Abbi Harper Smith. She is reunited in spirit with her late husband, Jerry Hilory Smith. Pat Pat's legacy of love, honesty and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A visitation would be held on October 29, 2024 at 11:00 am at Pinecrest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Pkwy, Mobile Alabama 36605, where family and friends will gather to honor the indelible mark she left on our lives.
