It is with a very heavy heart I must announce the sudden death of my Beloved Husband, Oscar S. Jones, III (Buddy). He is preceded in death by his daughter Amanda Mechelle Jones, nephew, Jason Jones, brother, Lawrence S. Jones and parents, Oscar S. Jones, Jr. and Estelle T. Jones.
He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend to many and will be sadly missed.
Mr. Jones was born in Mobile. He attended and graduated from Baker High School with honors. He attended Southeastern Louisiana University where he played football on a scholarship. In the middle of his college years he married , as he described, "The Love of His Life" Cindy Marcus, on July 18, 1974 and they have been side by side for the past 48 years. Oscar graduated from GCCC in Gautier, MS with a degree in Design Drafting and Pre-Engineering where he also graduated with honors. He then attended USA where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from Jedson Engineering in 2015.
Many of you are aware that Oscar had a lifelong issue with diabetes. The battle was a difficult one as he recently lost his left leg below the knee. That did not keep him down for very long. Six weeks ahead of the normal schedule for his prosthesis he received his first prosthetic leg. The smile on his face was pure excitement like a child on Christmas morning. On Thursday afternoon, 9/1, the therapist placed his new prosthesis on him and with his walker went proudly across the room with his new leg, which was laminated with his beloved University of Alabama Crimson Tide. He exclaimed "Nothings slowing me down now"....another accomplished that showed on his smiling face.
Our happiness and excitement was short lived. He passed suddenly Thursday night while preparing for bed.
Oscar is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years Cindy Jones. He is also survived by his brother, Gary S. Jones (Sheryl), sisters, Kathy McMillan (Danny), Sandra Roy (Sonny) and host of other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home-Mobile on Friday, September 9, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, September 10, 2022 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be offered to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital in Memphis. We have a Memory Garden in our front yard in memory of our daughter Amanda and now will be one of Oscar and Amanda. We will be planting new flowers and trees and if you would like to contribute, this will be another way we can honor his memory. "New growth and New life".
