Nancy Barbara (Oswalt) Mitchell

December 2, 1932 - January 31, 2021

Nancy Barbara Oswalt Mitchell, age 88, long-time resident of Mobile, AL, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning, January 31, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Douglas Harrison “Pete” Mitchell; her parents, William F. and Mary Esther Horn Oswalt; her sister, Patricia Nephew; her grandson, Andrew Wesley Hinkle; her twin great-grandsons, Calvin James and Warren Wesley Hinkle; and her special friend, Frank Hudson. She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Hinkle (Wesley), Kay Hartley (Terry), and Laura Eggers (Allan). “Nana” is also survived by her grandchildren, Katie Shapley (Richard), Thomas Hinkle (Danielle), Amy Parker (Rob), Will Hartley, and Paige Malone (Chase); and her great-grandchildren, Mitch Shapley, Joseph Shapley, Reid Parker, Anniston Parker, and Lydia Hinkle. She is also survived by her nieces, Bethany Gilliam and Dee-Ann Lack. Many and special thanks to Theresa Jackson who provided countless hours of love and care and Cyrena Thomas who was always there when we needed her. Barbara was born in Anniston, AL and graduated from Anniston High School. She and Pete were married in Anniston in 1951, started their family there, and moved to Mobile a few years later. When her girls were a little older, she worked at Gayfers for several years and later began a long and successful career in real estate. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Pky, Mobile, AL.
