Nancy Herrington Delchamps was born in Mobile, AL on July 8, 1944 to Nancy Annette Herrington and John Edgar Herrington. She was a graduate of Vigor High School, worked at the Alabama State Docks and later at Tommy’s Terminal where she met the love of her life, John Randolph Delchamps. With Nancy’s wonderful outgoing personality and love of life, she made many friends and will be sorely missed by all the lives she touched, as well as her loving family. She died Monday, January 23, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Nancy and her husband Randy were strong supporters of the Salvation Army, the University of Alabama and she volunteered with several community organizations such as the American Cancer Society and Caregivers.
Nancy is predeceased in death by her husband John Randolph Delchamps, her mother Nancy Annette Herrington, her father, John Edgar Herrington, and her sister, Edwina Herrington. She is survived by three brothers Edgar “Buddy” Herrington (Sylvia), Dover, PA, Richard Herrington (Barbara), Saraland, AL and David Herrington, Mobile, AL, a sister Lynn Herrington Miller, Chickasaw, AL, her sister-in-law Mary Delchamps Reyner, Mobile, AL and brother-in-law Oliver Harris Delchamps, Jr., Fairhope, AL.
She is also survived by sons David Neutze (Joannie), Bay Minette, AL, John Delchamps, Jr. (Heather), Lucedale, MS, and Lee Delchamps (Amanda), Tuscaloosa, AL, and her daughters, Lisa Perkins ( Ray), Hattiesburg, MS, Libby Delchamps, Jackson, MS, and Michelle Ramadan (Fuad), Satellite Beach, FL.
In addition, she is survived by 13 grandchildren: Alex, John David, Joshua, Jacob and James Neutze, Samantha Stewart, Rachael and Shelby Perkins, Collier Delchamps, Oliver and Cecilia Delchamps, Soha and Sami Ramadan, 2 great grandchildren, John Michael Stewart and Meredith Buck, nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Nancy was a member of the Ashland Place United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at Ashland Place United Methodist Church in the Fellowship Hall between 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM Friday, January 27, 2017 with funeral service at 1:00 - 2:00 PM in the sanctuary of the church. Interment will be at Pinecrest Cemetery, Dauphin Island Parkway. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or to your favorite charity.
