A graduate of Murphy High School (Class of 1946), he then attended the University of Alabama where he earned both business and law degrees. While attending the University in 1949, Mitchell and his debate partner won the National Intercollegiate Debate Championship. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1979.
As an accomplished attorney, he practiced law in Mobile from 1952 up until the time of his death, and served as President of the Mobile Bar Association (1986). He was an active and devoted member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church from 1965 up until the time of his death, serving as Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Vestry Member, Head of Sunday school and other various committees.
A loving father, husband, and friend, Mitchell was always ready with a warm smile, jolly laugh and a kind word of wisdom; taking the utmost pride and joy in caring for family. A constant source of insight, knowledge, and most importantly love; he will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Mitchell is survived by his wife of 30 years - Susan Lattof, his 4 children – Mitchell Lattof Jr. (Sissy), Melanie Friend (John), Andrew Lattof (Becky) and Clara Ohannes (Elias), his 10 grandchildren – Mitchell Lattof III, Ashton Lattof, Katherine Friend, Jack Friend, Nick Friend, Drake Lattof, Aurelia Lattof, Hasmik Ohannes, Sosi Ohannes and Natalya Ohannes and 1 great grandchild – Delaney Dantin Lattof.
A graveside service will be held at Pine Crest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, in Mobile on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 1:00 p.m., which may be viewed via livestream at https://www.facebook.com/RadneyMobile/. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mobile at a later date.
