Michael James Tiller (Mikey, Yoko, Ditch Man or even just Tiller to some) was born on September 28, 1973, to Joyce and William Tiller, Jr. in Richmond, Virginia. Michael went Home to the Lord on February 5, 2023, at 49 years old, after a long battle with Spina Bifida. Told by the doctors at birth that he would never walk or talk, Michael defied all odds and showed the world just how big his God is! He graduated Shaw High School in Mobile, Alabama, in 1993, then sought additional training as a Computer Analyst. Michael loved the Lord and was an active member of Wilson Avenue Baptist Church, where he played on the Men’s Softball Team and taught Sunday School and taught AWANA! Michael was loved by so many. His positive outlook, generous spirit and kind heart left an impression wherever he went. He always had a kind word for others and a smile on his face, no matter what daily struggle he was facing in his own life. Michael never met a stranger, especially if they shared his love of the Atlanta Braves, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Alabama Crimson Tide (not necessarily in that order!)
Michael is survived by his devoted mother, Joyce Tiller, who he loved deeply and admired greatly and his loving aunts, Marie (Jack) Washam, Miriam Blackwell, Linda (Larry) Coleman, Pam Harding, Faye (Mike) Shumate, and his uncle Douglas (Trudy) Goins. Michael is also survived by his step-sister, Tabitha Daughtry Denton and many cousins and friends, including online friends across the country. Michael also is survived by his very devoted best friend of more than 30 years, Sophia “Gussy” Bosarge (Bart).
Michael is now at peace, joining his father, William Tiller Jr. and his paternal grandparents, Eudora and John William Tiller, Sr. Also eagerly awaiting Michael’s arrival was his maternal grandparents, Fred and Willette Goins; he was surely the apple of their eye! Michael also joins his uncles in Heaven, William Goins, Albert Blackwell, Bruce Harding and Charles Tiller!
Serving as Pallbearers will be some of Michael’s closest friends, Mitchell Collins, Larry Pierce, Justin Stone, Chris Beverly, Ray Murphy, Travis Ritchie with Chris Miller and Lamar Hicks as alternates.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Michael on Friday from 1 until 2 pm at Solid Rock Church of God, 11400 Tanner Williams Rd, Mobile, 36608. The service will be performed by Pastor Glen Barnhill at 2pm with interment immediately following at Wilmer Cemetery.
