Michael Leigh “Mike” Tallant – a 65 year-old lifelong resident of the Mobile area passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, after a short battle with cancer. He was a Vietnam War veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Mike retired from the United States Army as a First Sergeant after 22 years of service. He also had a law enforcement career working for the City of Mobile, Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and retired as a Lieutenant after 21 years with the Dauphin Island Police Department. He was also a former R.O.T.C. Instructor at B.C. Rain High School. Mike was an avid outdoorsman, and he and his wife, Debbie, loved spending time together hunting and fishing at their camp in Chatom. In addition to Debbie, he is survived by his sister, Linda Robey; sister-in-law, Cookie Watson; brother-in-law, Curtis Culwell (Waynnette); his dogs, Blackie, Happie, and Rascal; plus five fat cats. He is also survived by children, Saima (Oscar), Stephanie, Ricky (Angela), and Eric (Silvia); grandchildren, Blakely, Rainie, Lacie, and Denise; and many friends, including a lifelong one, Paul White. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, March 11, 2013, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Mobile S.P.C.A.
