Michael D. “Mike” Doss – a 74 year-old resident of Mobile, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023. Michael, fondly known as Mike or Pop, was born to Junius and Dolly Mae Doss on April 17, 1949, in Bessemer, Alabama. He was a Hall of Fame High School Football player, and loved Alabama football, but he had no greater love than that for his wife, Cindy. Mike was a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1972-1976.
Aside from his love for Alabama football, Mike was passionate about his family, especially his wife Cindy, the love of his life and his soulmate. Often times at their home, when food was served, he would be the last to eat, always offering anyone that came through the kitchen door something to eat first. He never placed himself first and always had a grin that put you at ease. His grandchildren always held a special place in his heart, and they all called him Pop. Pop would never let them leave without telling them that he loved them along with a hefty hug. Mike was the type of man anyone would be proud to call a friend. He will be greatly missed and thought of often.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Junius and Dolly Mae Doss, and eight siblings, Peggy, Barbara, Alice, Patsy, Jack, Eddie Bo, Billy, and Sam. He is survived by his wife, Cindy Doss; their two children, Chris Doss (Amanda) and Ashley Reed (Harvey); sister, Brenda LaRussa (Andy); and grandchildren, Lydia Doss, Landon Doss, Will Reed, and Wyatt Reed.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Springhill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
