Dr. Michael Lory Campbell, III died in Oxford, MS on December 20, 2021 at the age of 94. He was a native of Mobile and graduated from McGill Institute in 1945, and from Spring Hill College in 1948. He earned his Medicinae Doctoris degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1953. He then returned to Mobile where he interned at City Hospital and began his residency in Internal Medicine. He was subsequently commissioned as a medical officer in the United States Air Force and after 2 years of service, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. Upon completion of his military obligation, he resumed his training in Medicine at UAB and spent one year as a research fellow in hematology. He was Chief Resident In Medicine at UAB before establishing his private practice in hematology and oncology. In 1967, he left private practice to become the Director of Medical Education at the Mobile General Hospital, and was also Associate Professor of Medicine at UAB. In 1970, he accepted an appointment as Assistant Director of the Center for Educational Development for the University of Illinois, College of Medicine in Chicago, IL. There he was also Director of the Continuing Education. In 1972, Dr. Campbell elected to return to Mobile to resume private practice until retirement in 1997. In his younger days, he loved to travel and tend to his yard. He was a member of the Alabama Camellia Society. He loved spending time with family on the water and watching Alabama football. Roll Tide! He was predeceased by his parents M. Lory Campbell and Shirley Collier Campbell both of Mobile, a brother F. "Ronnie" Campbell of Mobile and his daughter Julie Campbell Solley of Mobile. Survivors include a daughter, Ashley Robinson Griffith (Bill) of Oxford, MS, son Albert Robinson (Latisha) of Mobile and four grandchildren; Annalee Dunkerly (Dustin) of Kennesaw, GA, Victor Solley of Atlanta, GA, Max Griffith of Oxford, MS and Dexter Robinson of Mobile and two great-grandchildren. He also left behind a wonderful group of friends including Peggy Greene, Anita Dollarhide, Susan and Leonard Garrett, Cindy and Mike Comalander and Mr. Richard Ward. Visitation will be at St. Ignatius Catholic Church (old church) on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 10 a.m. Mass is to follow at 11:00 a.m. Graveside committal services will be held at Magnolia Cemetery.
