On April 1, 2023, Mary “Wanda” Smith was welcomed home into the loving arms of Jesus. She was born in Franklin, Alabama, on May 11, 1952. Wanda was the wife of John Kenneth Smith and was a long-time resident of Hurley, Mississippi. She was a member of Hurley Methodist Church.
Wanda is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 47 years Kenneth; her daughters, Christina Singleton and Tabitha (Brad) Lewis; and her two very special grandsons, Jackson Bradley Lewis and Bryson John Lewis. She was predeceased by her parents, David Stabler and Mary Ellen Melvin; her brother, Dennis Stabler; and her sister, Clara Bell Stabler. She is also survived by her siblings, Estelle McKinley, Melinda Potter, David Stabler, Jr. (Johnnie Ruth). Also surviving her are other devoted family, H.L. (Virginia) Smith, Raymond (Lucy) Smith, Darrell (Lisa) Smith, Elaine Johnson, Mavis Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wanda found great joy in her church family relationships and the community of friends she had made over the years. She worked with Jackson County Maintenance Department for 17 years where she made many friends. She loved spending time with her family, especially her two grandsons, Jackson and Bryson. Wanda was an avid shopper. She loved to browse and also buy, but many times it was not herself she had in mind, but others. Wanda loved to give gifts and her desire to bless others was rooted in her Christian walk.
Funeral services will be held from Hurley Methodist Church in Hurley, Mississippi on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Joyner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hurley Methodist Church.
