Mary Nell Sims

Mary Nell Sims, 78, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. Mary was born to Burnell Price and Mary Riley Price on August 4, 1944 in Houston, Texas. She worked for several years as a telephone operator at Bellsouth before she became a mother. Mary would go on to retire from Sears after 17 years, and work at Walmart part-time when she became an empty-nester. The entire family loved the outdoors – anywhere from the beach to boating and fishing. Mary was, above all else, a family woman. She was a wonderful wife and mother, and always made sure she was present for her children and grandchildren. Mary was an amazing example of a Godly woman, and had a generous heart. She donated to several organizations, and would give anyone the shirt off of her back.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L. Sims, Sr.; her parents and all of her siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Brian Sims (Denise Brown Sims) and LaDell McLeod Burke (William Patrick Burke); eight grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.

Visitation for Mary will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway, with a chapel service immediately following. Entombment will take place in Pine Crest Mausoleum.
