Mary Seal Oaks, age 83, died peacefully at Covenant Care Hospice in Pensacola, Florida on March 3, 2024. Mary was a Deacon at Community of Christ Church in Mobile, Alabama, a proud grandmother and great grandmother, a former nurse, and a retired school bus driver for Mobile County Public Schools. Mary was born in Leesville, Louisiana to Alsae Napoleon Seal and Mary Lorena Moye. She attended Columbia High School in Columbia, Mississippi and Toccoa Falls Institute in Toccoa, Georgia. She worked as a nurse at Providence Hospital before marrying the love of her life William Nelson Oaks and raising four children. Mary loved cooking, gardening, traveling, and was an avid collector of Department 56 Christmas Village pieces. She was well known for her elaborate Christmas Village displays.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her aunt Florence Davis, her daughter Ashley Anne Oaks Barnette, and her son Richard Glenn Oaks. She is survived by her husband of 57 years William Nelson Oaks, her daughter Debra (Tim) Williamson, and her son William (Marilyn) Oaks. She is also survived by her brother James (Bonnie) Seal of Portland, Oregon, her sister Sandra Mauldin of San Antonio, Texas, her great-grandchild, her grandchildren, and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Community of Christ Church-Mobile on Thursday, March 14, 2022 from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held in the church sanctuary beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
