Mary Helen McKeough passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 23, 1937, in Mobile, Alabama, to Richard Von Wowern Butler and Lucille Duff Butler.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter McKeough, whom she married on July 25th, 1956, as well as her four brothers—Arthur Butler, Paul (Barbara) Butler, Richard (Lynn) Butler, and Rhett Butler—her grandson, Thomas Butler, and her son-in-law, Henry Johnson.
She is survived by her four devoted children: Julie Johnson, Theresa (Neal) Butler, Pat (Sarah) McKeough, and Andrew (Amy) McKeough. Mary was a proud and loving grandmother to eight grandchildren: Kristie (Troy) Cooper, Ricky (Carmen) Brown, Jake Butler, Kendyl (Kyle) Stuckey, Hayden McKeough, Mary Grace McKeough, and Kamden McKeough. Her legacy continues through her cherished great-grandchildren: Lucy Cooper, Zachary Cooper, Alex Brown, Bradley Brown, and Isiah Butler. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
A lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Mobile, Mary received all her sacraments there and was deeply involved in the church community, serving faithfully on the Lawn Party Committee, 1621 Club, and Bereavement Committee.
Mary retired from the University of South Alabama after 35 years of dedicated service. She adored her family and never missed an opportunity to share just how proud she was of each and every one of them. Known for her warm personality, quick wit, and infectious laugh, Mary never met a stranger and was truly the life of every gathering.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1621 Boykin Boulevard, Mobile, AL followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.
Her spirit, generosity, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
