Beloved wife, mother, mimi, and friend, Mary Lou Daughtry Loftin passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013, at the age of 86. In her lifetime, she loved to read, sew, sing in the choir, play bridge, work in her yard, and especially loved cooking for her family and friends. She was a wonderful friend, a loving mother and a special grandmother. Mary was spiritually “lifted up” in her last few months by Rev. Jenni Hendrix, the youth, the choir, and the church members of Spring Hill Avenue United Methodist Church.
Mary Lou was born in Hartford, Alabama on February 12, 1927. She graduated from Geneva County High School in 1945 and attended college at Montevallo and Auburn University. In 1949, she graduated from Auburn (API) with an Education degree and married her high school sweetie, Robert Earl Loftin, Sr. Mobile has been her home since 1957.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Loftin, Sr.; parents, William Oliver Daughtry and Susie Mae Daughtry; and brother, Bill Daughtry (Margraret).
She is survived by her loving children, Suzanne Loftin Hellman (Daniel), Robert Earl Loftin, Jr. (Monica), and David Monroe Loftin (Ann); grandchildren, Sean Isaac Hellman, Haley Hellman Genry (Ryan), Robert Miles Loftin, and Emma Kathleen Loftin; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at Spring Hill Avenue United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Springhill Ave. and Florida St., on Saturday, January 4th from 10:00 a.m. until the 12:00 noon funeral service. Interment will follow at Mobile Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bob Loftin, David Loftin, Miles Loftin, Sean Hellman, Ryan Genry, and Jimmy Martin.
