Preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lou Geiger, sister Valdrie Clark, brother Harvey Geiger, and niece Linda Geiger.
Survived by her husband Bruce Hill, sons Larry and Robert Hill (Gayle and Kathi), grandchildren Daniel (Kay), Laura (Andre), John Robert (Meaghan), and Julie, and great grandchildren Daniel II, Champ, Mac, Asher, and Logan.
Mary was a wife, mother, and homemaker. She worked for the Mobile County Public School System as a
substitute teacher and secretary. She was a longtime member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church.
Mary’s focus in life was God, family, and friends. She was a gracious hostess and always had a cake or cookies when anyone came to visit. She loved to cook and was well known for her delicious sweet potato pies. She baked the best Italian Crème Cake you have ever tasted, but her Carrot and Red Velvet cakes weren’t to be forgotten either. It wasn’t just sweets she was good at making but she cooked a wonderful roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy and crowder peas and cornbread. Good “ole” country cooking was her forte. You could never leave her home empty handed. She made sure you left with a jar of homemade jelly, or cookies, or a slice of cake. She loved her boys and doted on her grandchildren, always making time for them. She loved getting together with family anytime but Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorites. She loved to collect angels. She had them all over the house and even decorated her Christmas tree with them. Traveling was one of her favorite things to do. She and Bruce bought a travel trailer and later a motor home and traveled all over the country. They even drove it all the way to Alaska. They also traveled several times to Hawaii and overseas to Europe and Asia. When not traveling, Mary’s other great passion was her church. She and Bruce have been members of Dauphin Way Baptist for almost 70 years and were very active until health issues made it difficult to attend.
Although she never ran herself, she was Bruce’s faithful cheerleader at all of the 5K, 6K, 10K, and marathons he ran. There was never a more faithful and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Visitation is December 20th at 1:00pm with funeral service to follow at 2:00pm at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street in Mobile. She will be interred at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, you consider donations in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association (Alz.org).
