On December 15, 2020, Mary Frances Strickland Davis passed quietly away in Mobile, AL
at the age of 89.
Born in Dothan, AL, she also lived in Birmingham, Montgomery and Austin, TX. Mary
attended Howard College as a music major and shared her love of playing the organ and
singing in choirs through most of her life.
Mary was preceded in death by her father Henry D. Strickland, mother Robbie Lee
Strickland, two brothers Robert Larry Strickland, James Henry Strickland and her former
husband, Charles Hendrik Davis.
Survivors include her three children: Terry Smith of Mobile, AL (the late Melvin Smith),
Keith Davis of Athens, AL (Donna), Leigh Davis Honn of Acton, MA (David).
Grandchildren: Garrett Smith of Lucedale, MS (Kristia), Courtney Everette of Mobile, AL
(Travis), Claire Geno of El Paso, TX (Aaron), Brian Davis of Atlanta, GA and Joseph Davis of

The world lost a special spirit in Mary, who was known for her singing, her genuine
hospitality and her optimism. She was loved by those who knew her well – as daughter,
sister, mother, grandmother, wife and friend – and by those who encountered her
infectious smile along their daily journey. We are all better people for having known and
loved her.
A private graveside service will be held in Montgomery, AL. Out of respect for the current
CDC health guidelines, the family asks that friends and loved ones be with them in spirit
and in prayer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Larry Strickland Memorial Fund, Baptist
Foundation of Alabama, P.O. Box 241227, Montgomery, AL 36124. The Larry Strickland
Christian Vocational Scholarship at Huntington College, Montgomery, AL.
