Martha Eloise Botter Wheeler, a life-long resident of Mobile, Alabama, died Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the age of ninety-six. Martha worked at Sears for 32 years, and was an active member of the Sears Retiree Club. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Martha was affectionately known as “Big Mama”. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher David Wheeler; mother and father, Christine Betty and Paul Gerrard Botter; five brothers and their spouses, Paul (Florine) Botter, Claude (Bessie) Botter, Jasper (Elsie) Botter, John (Edna) Botter, and Daniel (Mildred) Botter; three sisters and their spouses, Nellie (Freddie) Savelle, Ruth Imms Clinton, and Mary (Roy) Reeves; and her son-in-law, Kenneth A. Salter, Sr.
Martha is survived by her daughter, Rita Sue Salter; two grandsons, Ken (Veronica) Salter and David (Jevon) Salter; five great-granddaughters, Emily Alexandra Salter, Maria Sofia Salter, Natalie Olivia Salter, Emma Reese Salter, and Anna Patton Salter; as well as nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.
A family graveside will be held in Pine Crest Cemetery on Dauphin Island Parkway at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Christ United Church, or the church of your choice.
