Malcolm Lovel Roberts, born May 4, 1925, transitioned to Christ’s heavenly home on December 8, 2018. He was born near Chipley, Florida to George and Jimmie Roberts. He had 4 older brothers who have pre-deceased him. He was married for 65 years to the late Mary Elizabeth Brock (affectionately called M.E.), and they had three children: Michael (Jo Ann) Roberts, Marsha Scarborough (Sidney), and Mark (Jean) Roberts. He had 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. There are also several nieces, nephews and cousins who survive him.
From 1943 to 1946, Rev. Roberts served our country in World War 2 as an aircraft mechanic in the Army Air Corp. After coming to faith in Christ in the spring of 1952, he accepted God’s invitation to join Him in ministry. For over 50 years before and during retirement, he pastored several United Methodist churches in the Alabama West Florida Conference. He was also a faithful servant at Bethlehem Family Camp Meeting since his call to preach there in 1952.
In his life he had many titles, and he cherished each of them: son, brother, husband, father, uncle, “uncle Milcome,” Seargent, preacher, pastor, Reverend, “Brother Roberts,” Father, Dad, Daddy, Granddaddy, and even Big Daddy.
At the recent services for George H. W. Bush, Senator Al Simpson stated that the road of humility is never crowded. Perhaps that’s why Brother Roberts’ life never seemed rushed, pushed, or out of kilter. He was a humble man who walked quietly and peacefully all of his days on a highway of humility. He walked in peace with all men and holiness with God. Truly this was a man of God.
The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff of Westminster Village Skilled Care, especially the nurses and assistants who lovingly cared for our father as one of their own family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations to honor Brother Roberts’ life be made to Bethlehem Family Camp Meeting and sent to:
