Madeline Scott left this earth be with the Lord on June 11, 2016. She was 89 years old and passed away surrounded by her family at her home. Madeline was the heart and soul of her family, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was fun, smart, generous, and had a great sense of humor. She was always saying things that made us laugh unexpectedly. She was the last member of her generation in our family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Elvin, her best friend of 67 years, Erma Biehl, her Mother, Iola Shreve Hazel, her father, William Hazel, her brother, Bill Hazel, and her aunt, Alva Shreve. Madeline, a native and life long Mobilian, graduated from Murphy and attended Samford University. She met her best friend Erma while working at Western Union. She was the bookkeeper at Flowerwood Nursery for 30 years, and then the personal secretary to the owner, Greg Smith Sr. for 15 years. One championship year, they even went to every home and away game. They also took their motor home to camp and fish as well as cross-country vacations.
In the 60s and 70s, the family camped for many wonderful summers at Peavy Island, fishing, shrimping, and crabbing. Madeline cooked many delicious platters of soft shell crabs, along with gumbo, and fried seafood.
Madeline and Elvin loved to dance, from square dancing to ballroom dancing at as well as dancing in the kitchen as supper was cooking. She was a member of a Mardi Gras association for years and enjoyed riding the float along with the balls and parties.
