Luther Nathaniel Davis III, 87 years of age, went home to be with the Lord on the evening of July 15, 2024, in the comfort of his home and surrounded by the ones whom he loved. Davis; his children, Karen Davis (Arthur R.) Goodson and Charles Edwin (Laura Duley) Davis; grandchildren, Arthur Bryant (Daisy) Goodson, Rebecca Ingram and Charles “Chase” Evan (Madison) Davis; great-grandchildren, Piper Suzanne Lopez, Clarissa Sowell, Samantha Sowell, Carly Sowell, Dean Logan Sowell, Charles Edwin Davis II, Bennett Fuller Davis and William Shepard Davis; his two siblings, Edwin Burnley (Lynne) Davis and Katherine Davis (David) Newell ; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Woody.
Luther was dedicated to his Savior, Jesus Christ, and through his faith, he made it his mission, even in his more difficult later years, to share the way to salvation everywhere he went. He was a dedicated and lifelong member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church. There he found his church home as a young man. Luther grew closer in his faith while attending school at Howard College, now Samford University. Throughout the years he spent at Dauphin Way Baptist, he cherished the time he spent as a choir member, narrating Christmas specials and serving as a deacon.
Luther’s earlier career included serving a year in Vietnam as Assistant Field Director for the American Red Cross, aiding in relief to the military during the Vietnam war. He also enjoyed his business in Bel Air Mall, American Handicraft Company and his store, the Shoe Box on Springhill Avenue in the early eighties. Luther then settled into a career in sales at Standard Equipment Company Inc. from where he retired after almost 30 years. Over the years he enjoyed being a Ham Radio operator, acting in local playhouses and a part time job as radio announcer at WHEP in Foley Al. where he enjoyed putting his pleasant, robust “announcer” voice to good service.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 23rd at Dauphin Way Baptist at 10:00 AM, with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 AM. Luther will be laid to rest at Pine Crest Cemetery, Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile
In lieu of flowers, Luther and his family request memorial donations to be made to Dauphin Way Baptist Church Missions.
