Chuck, also known as “Charlie” by family, passed away May 18, 2016. Chuck went to St. Mary’s Catholic School and was a graduate of McGill Institute. Chuck, as a student at McGill, worked at the Alabama State Docks. As a young married man, worked at the Alabama Dry Docks in the Payroll Department. After marriage and starting a family, he found his home with Alabama Power /Southern Company. He worked his way up from Night Groundman to Lead Lineman. He worked with Alabama Power for over 33 years.
He and his wife, Jean, spent fifty-five years together, deeply in love. He was the love of her life and the life of her love. He also had a love for Dauphin Island, where they spent years boating, crabbing, fishing and entertaining. He enjoyed Saturday and Sunday football as well. Chuck was an active person, not wanting to give in to his illness. Chuck will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, William Tracy Meyer and Ida Louise Brannon Meyer; his brothers Willie Meyer and infant, “Baby” Meyer; and his grandmother, Ms. Kate Brannon.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Jean Abrams Meyer; son, Lewis Charles Meyer, Jr.; daughter, Christina Lynn (Michael) Smith; grandsons, Lewis Charles Meyer, III (Trey), Mason Cahill Smith, and Marshall Colton Smith; the one that made his heart beat, Isabella Grace Meyer, his great-granddaughter; two brothers, Robert Brannon Meyer, and Richard Wayne Meyer. And his “watchdog”, Miss Lilley.
Chuck had a very long battle with cancer. He would want to thank the doctors and nurses at the Radiology Group, the Southern Cancer Center, the Urology and Oncology Specialists, and the nurses and aides at the Kindred Hospice Group. A very special thank you, to Dr. Gino Divitorio, who was a special friend, Doctor and Advisor.
