Larry James Montgomery was born on April 6, 1959, to the late James Montgomery and Elizabeth Montgomery in Arlington, Alabama. He transitioned from this life to Life Eternal on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, Alabama. He confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at the age of 16 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Daphne, Alabama. He attended Fairhope High School and graduated from Vigor High School in 1977. He was united in marriage to Cynthia Edwards Montgomery on August 25, 1979, and was blessed with two children through this union.
He was licensed as a minister in June 1992 and became an ordained minister in March 1993 under the late Reverend Clarence A. Lett at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Larry received an Associate of Arts in Biblical Studies (A.A.B.S.) from the Institute of Biblical Studies and received a diploma in Theology from the Easonian Baptist Seminary in May 1994. Larry served faithfully as an Associate Minister at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Prichard, Alabama. He also served as an Assistant Pastor at Ruth Missionary Baptist Church in Prichard, Alabama and St. Mary Baptist Church in Hurricane, Alabama.
Larry retired from Radney Funeral Home in Mobile, Alabama in 2024, where he worked as a dedicated porter for over 36 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elizabeth Montgomery; his beloved brother, Sergeant Timothy James Montgomery; sister-in-law, Barbara Harvey; and brother-in-law, LaBarron Edwards. He leaves to cherish his memories two children, Minister Larry T. (Chanel) Montgomery of Calhoun, Georgia and LaTrenna Montgomery of Daphne, Alabama; five grandchildren, Nygel Mitchell and Kennedy Seals of Daphne, Alabama, Lennan Montgomery, Paxton Montgomery, and Ayda Montgomery of Calhoun, Georgia; five siblings, David Montgomery, Clifton Montgomery, Christa Montgomery, Kelvin Montgomery, all of Daphne, Alabama and Tiffany (Bishop Daniel) Richardson of Madison, Alabama; seven sister-in-laws, Caron Edwards, Charles (Doris) Edwards, Aronita Wallace, LaTanya (Pastor Julius) Bryant of Mobile, Alabama; Dr. Sandra (Joseph) Moore Armstrong, Elder Darlene (Ernest) Caffey of Stone Mountain, Georgia; devoted friends, Pastor Timothy and Shelia Hale; two godchildren, Timothy Hale Jr. and Minister Janell Hamilton; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Radney Funeral Home in Mobile, Alabama. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Daphne, Alabama. Interment will be at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
