Juanita James Young (Nita), died, Wednesday, March 11 in Mobile, Alabama. Born on February 8, 1931 in Tibbie, Alabama to Otis and Mary James, Nita attended Livingston University where she met and married her best friend and the love of her life, Henderson Young. Soon after their marriage they moved to Mobile where they spent their lives as educators. Nita loved teaching, and she taught elementary school for 33 years. She delighted in hearing about the accomplishments and successes of her former students.
As a member of First Baptist Church of Mobile, she was involved in many activities, including delivering Meals on Wheels. An avid reader with a keen intellect, she was a member of Century Book Club, as well as the Retired Teachers’ Association and Alpha Kappa Delta Teachers Sorority.
She is survived by her children, Lisa Young, Eric Young and wife Mindy (McAllister), grandsons Hiram and Theodore, sisters Maxine Taylor and Voncille Cleary and brother, Otis James.
Visitation will be Friday March 13 from 12-2 at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway with the service immediately following.
