Mr. Joseph Vernon “Pine” Wilkins was born in Mobile, Alabama on October 2, 1917. He passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2013. He was 95 years old. “Pine” was a generous, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved music, dancing and spending time with his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Lucile Glenn Wilkins; one daughter, Donna Ann Wilkins, parents; Anna Marie Kearns Wilkins, John Carleton Wilkins; three brothers, John Carleton (Margueritte) Wilkins, Jr., Robert Bernard (Monie) Wilkins, Marion Francis (Paula) Wilkins ; sisters, Marie Wilkins (John) Martin, Ruth Wilkins (Billy) O’Conner.
He is survived by one sister, Regina Wilkins (Norville) Morris; one sister-in-law, Lynn Curran (Marion) Wilkins; one son, Joseph Vernon (Cathy) Wilkins, Jr. of Columbus, GA; one daughter, Glenn Wilkins (Roe) Burton; six grandchildren, Robert Wilson (Dana) Russ, III, Robin Cooper Wilkins (Kelly) Russ, Donna Kendrick Russ, all of Mobile, Joseph Vernon (Helen) Wilkins, III of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Patrick Moret (Ashley) Wilkins of Birmingham, Alabama, Elizabeth Wilkins (Bo) Taber of Columbus, Georgia; ten great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. “Pine” retired from Brookley Air Force Base as Deputy Director of Procurement and later, Mobile Coating and Sand Blasting. He was an active member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 26, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Marian Center at St. Ignatius Catholic Church followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 AM.
