A long time resident of Mobile, he was born December 30, 1943.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Carol Wright Watson, two sons, John Eric (Rhonda) Watson and Michael Leslie (Doloria) Watson, his grandchildren Christopher (Alyson) Watson, Hayley (Alex) Johnson, Ryan (Alisha) Watson, Edward McGowan Jr., Joseph McGowan, Delaney Watson, David (Quivontie) McGowan, and Brianna Watson. He also leaves behind his sister, Gwyn Broadus, his brother, George Watson, two great-grandchildren, Blake and Luke Watson, many nieces, nephews, friends and his loyal dog, Jake.
He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter Brandy (George) Muniz, his parents, Homer Wilford and Cornelia Watson and his sister Rosa Duckett.
Mr. Watson served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he earned three bronze stars. He was an avid Alabama fan, hunter, fisherman and gardener. This wonderful man, father, grandfather and friend will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin Street in Mobile on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 starting at 10:00AM with chapel services beginning at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort with military honors at 2PM.
Mr. Watson requested a celebration of life in lieu of the usual funeral attire. Please dress casually and wear your Alabama Crimson Tide (or favorite team) shirt. Roll Tide.
In lieu of flowers, please offer memorial donations to St. Jude's Children Foundation or Ronald McDonald House Charities.
