John Michael (Captain T-Bone) Thompson, age 63, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, at home. Life-long resident of Mobile and owner of Sunbelt Pools, Mike was born March 14, 1956, and was a graduate of Murphy High School. He was predeceased by his parents, Laura Walters and John Bernard Thompson. Married to Nancy Lin Wiggins Thompson, they had one son, Laine Michael Thompson of Mobile; sister, Julie (Bob) Clements; brother, Danny (Susan) Thompson; sister-in-law, Nora Wiggins Myers; a special brother, Sam Gullotte; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church.
An avid sportsman, known throughout the Mobile Delta and Southeast since his teenage years, Mike’s passion for hunting and fishing had been evident and all consuming. He was well known at the Mobile Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo as winner of countless trophies for the Liars Contests. He was a master storyteller, certified hunting and fishing guide, free-lance photographer and sportswriter for various publications as the Mobile Press-Register, and Great Day Outdoors.
Mike was a founding member of the Saltwater Sportsman Association. He also founded the Alabama Coastal Fishing Association, an organization dedicated to inshore fishing for the whole family.

He enjoyed contributing outdoor photography and writing for several fishing magazines and led many seminars for boat shows. Other charitable causes he enjoyed helping were “Wishin To Go Fishin” and “Take a Soldier Fishing”, both enabling those who had never been fishing or needed someone to aid them in doing so.
Pallbearers will be Baxter Bishop, Hayes Cornelius, Jarrod Herrin, Jimbo Herrin, Robert Matthews, Chase Maxwell, Garrett Maxwell, and Tyler Maxwell. Honorary pallbearers are John Burke, Todd Golumb, Sam Gullotte, David Hare, James Herrin, Ross Hutchinson, Jimmy Matthews, Keith McGraw, Lee Minto and Ray Britt.
Visitation for “Capt. T-Bone” will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL. A Celebration of Life service will be Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 2 p.m. in the Pine Crest Chapel.
