John J. Lynch, Jr., known to his family and friends as “Jack” or “Pop.” Died at Providence Hospital July 25, 2013, following a brief illness. Jack was a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a resident of Mobile, AL since 1960. He attended Roman Catholic High School and LaSalle College in Philadelphia. In Mobile, Jack worked for Merchant National/First Alabama/Regions Banks for forty years before retiring in 2000. He loved sports, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Jack loved children and taught all his grandchildren to swim.
During his working years he participated on several sports teams. Jack was a member and instructor with the American Institute of Banking and volunteer for the United Fund. After retiring he played volleyball with his friends and always looked forward to lunch with the guys on Wednesdays at the Senior Center. Nearest to his heart was his family who adored him. Jack was an active member of Little Flower Catholic Church for twenty years and then St. Dominic Church until his death.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents John J. Lynch, Sr. and Catherine Rose Larkin Lynch. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eleanor McNichol Lynch, his sister Kathleen Barrett (Philadelphia); six children – Eleanor Taylor (Mobile), Jack (Judy) Lynch (Mobile), Joseph (Barb) Lynch (Chicago), David (Cyndi) Lynch (Mobile), Catherine (Howard) Buck (New London, PA), Francis Shannon (Shawn) Lynch (Dothan); sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, brother-in-law Jack (Judi) McNichol; sister-in-law Barbara M (Tom) Reed, Sister-in-law Joan (Jim) Davis, and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Pall Bearers will include: Jack Lynch, Joseph Lynch, David Lynch, Shannon Lynch, David Lynch, Jr., Daniel Taylor and Honorary Paul Bearers: Patrick Taylor, and Jimmy Reed.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin from 5 to 8 with Rosary at 7:00. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 Monday, July 29, 2013 at St Dominic Catholic Church on Burma Road. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery on Snow Road, Mobile, AL 36693. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Dominic’s Capital Campaign.
