He was the middle son born to Charles Lee Hickman and Gladys Sunshine
O’Guin Hickman on July 8, 1925 in Hustburg, TN. He graduated from
Tribble High School in 1942, joined the U.S. Navy in June, 1943, served as a
member of the Eighth Beach Batallion and was Honorably discharged in 1946. He attended the
University of Alabama and studied drafting and civil engineering.
Mr Hickman worked with various Engineering firms, held a real estate license for several years and
owned Hickman Plan service, drawing house plans. At the age of 65 he enrolled
at Southwest State Technical College and completed studies in Computer
Assisted Drafting. He was a member of West Side United Methodist Church.
Mr. Hickman is survived by his wife of 60 years, Juanita Perry Hickman;
daughter, Denna Hickman Fortner (Dale); son, John Hickman Jr.; granddaughter,
Crystal Isbell Bylinowski (David); grandsons, Calvin, Henry and Benjamin
Bylinowski; former daughter in law, Shirley Busma; former son in law, Daniel
Hanbury; a host of nieces and nephews, former U.S. Navy Shipmates.
The Hickman family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and
gratitude to Mary Walker, Touching Hearts Senior Care and Alabama Hospice Care. Their care and
concern for the dignity and comfort of Mr Hickman will always be remembered.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 1-2, with services
following at 2:00 at Pinecrest Cemetery, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile,
Alabama 36605.
