John Emmett Caton - age 63, a native and resident of Mobile, Alabama born on October 5, 1948, went home to be with God on August 22, 2012. Some may know him as "Champ", his nickname; or from TAA Park where he coached; or Dugussa where he worked. John served in the United States Navy with an honorable discharge. His moral compass guided everything he did. He served and protected his country and believed in doing his job like he lived his life; with dignity, honor, respect and integrity. John is preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Flora Caton; brothers, George Dean and Melvin Caton. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Sheila Caton; one daughter, Tammie (Steve) Gomez; one son, Grady (Jennifer) Caton; grandchildren, Bianca and Bryce Caton and Andrew and Adam Gomez; sisters, Patsy (Joe) Gresham; Gloria (Mike) Yohn, Rita (Ron) Greenbaum; brother, John Paul (Jo) Dean. John was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, brother, uncle and the most loyal friend. For his brief entry into our lives, we felt so lucky in his midst. The family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Springhill Hospice for their loving care. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, Aug. 23 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on the 24 of Aug., at 12:00.
