She was born July 17, 1932 in Liverpool, England to Rose and Arthur Rowlands. She was the first of six children. She met the love of her life, Eric John Tynan, married and traveled Europe before settling down and having their only child, Geoffrey. In 1969, they moved to Mobile, Alabama. Joan was a homemaker but did work at the Mobile Hilton for many years and helped her husband at Wintzell’s Oyster House. She was an active member of the Mobile British Women’s Club for the past 45 years and was committed to her husband and son.
Joanie, as she was called, earned the respect, love, and admiration of everyone she met. She was a gentle loving, kind person who never uttered a wrong word or had a bad thought towards anyone. She lived an amazing life, full of love and happiness. She loved music, gardening, concerts, cooking, collecting recipes, and keeping up with the times. Joanie loved to shop and decorate her home, hosting gatherings with her friends and neighbors of the Magnolia Village neighborhood where she lived. She was never an “old lady”, always staying up to date with fashion, music and her home. Joanie and Eric were a team and were married for over 50 years, until his death in 2002.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Edna McCaffrey and one brother Stephen Rowlands, both of Liverpool, England. She is survived by her son, two sisters and one brother, and many nieces and nephews. Her son would like to recognize Lenora Rhodes, her caregiver for the past 6 months. He will never forget her care, kindness, and compassion and most of all her friendship. Also special thanks to the Mobile British Women’s Club and all her many close friends and neighbors.
Joanie was always humble and unassuming, she would appreciate any donations be made to the charity of your choice.
A gathering of friends and family to celebrate the life of Joan "Joanie" Tynan, will be Friday, August 24, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Radney Funeral Home, Mobile, AL.
