May 8, 1938 - September 2, 2016: Joan Daugherty was a native of Lincoln, Nebraska and a longtime resident of Mobile, AL. Joan owned Daugherty’s Gallery on Downtowner Blvd and loved art and her students so much she never retired. She also loved ballroom dancing and people, so she started a singles dance club called Simply Single (1990-2004). Gregarious and lively, she was so friendly she warmly welcomed everyone into her circle of friends without regard to color, creed, or social standing, making all feel special and happy. We were all blessed to have known irreplaceable Joan. She touched so many lives and made us better people. She is survived by her son and best friend, Ken Daugherty (Fabiola) of Mobile, grandsons, Tony and Kenny, her brother Jack More and many friends who loved her like family. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Sept. 9th at First Christian Church, 1419 Gov’t. St., officiated by Pastor Lee Hixon. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Pine Crest Cemetery West. Joan happily served as wedding director there for many years. A light went out on earth and now shines in heaven, watching over us.
