Jerry Phillips, born on September 27, 1948, in Mobile, Alabama, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, in Chunchula, Alabama. A proud Army Veteran who served in Vietnam, Jerry retired from Akzo after a fulfilling career.
Jerry is preceded in death by his wife Judy Phillips, parents Albert and Maryetta Phillips, sisters Sue Keys, Nell Bradley, brothers, Mike Phillips and Tom Phillips, and his grandson Jody Dueitt.
Jerry’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family, which included his children, Ginger (Joe) Dueitt, Becky (Byron) Skidmore, and Jeremy (Tiffani) Phillips, as well as his grandchildren, Jonathan Boothe, Avery Skidmore, Ashlyn Phillips, Brandon Skidmore, LeeAnn Chatterton, and CJ Dueitt. He is also survived by his siblings Karen (Ricky) Tonsmiere, Betty (Fred) Burden, Sandy (Bob) Laurindine, Sara Cady, and Bruce Phillips.
An avid outdoorsman, Jerry cherished fishing and hunting, often sharing these passions with his beloved family. He was known for his sweet tooth and enjoyed spending time with his family. In his leisure time, he could be found engrossed in his favorite TV shows, including "Gunsmoke," "In the Heat of the Night," and "Yellowstone," or cheering on his favorite team, Alabama football.
A dedicated member of the American Legion Post 164, Jerry valued community and service. The family extends special thanks to Kim Ford for her assistance with Jerry’s daily care. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home-Mobile on Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until service time of 11:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in Wolf Ridge Cemetery.
