On March 21, 2023 heavens blew the trumpet and called back an angel to be with God, her maker. Jean Elizabeth will be mourned by so many who have been blessed to have had her as part of their lives. The joy and love she gave will be remembered so deeply within the heart of all she touched.
Jean Elizabeth Smith was born January 5, 1937, in Mobile, Alabama, where she also attended school – graduating in 1957. She went on to receive a certificate in Cosmetology.
Jean was united in holy matrimony to Robert A. Smith Senior, and, to that union three children were born. During her marriage to Robert, Jean perfected her skills as a seamstress and an awesome cook! Some of her famous recipes included unbelievable dressing, Mac and Cheese, and New Orleans style gumbo (to name a few). Her love of cooking led to a long and successful career at Red Lobster, alongside of her BFF, Mary Kyser.
Jean enjoyed watching the blessing of the fleet in Bayou La Batre with Mary. Also, she enjoyed the festivities surrounding Mardi Gras and walking the parade route with her son, Robert, while socializing with her many friends and family along the way.
Jean passed away in her sleep at Providence Hospital surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Smith, Sr.; parents, Henry and Marion (Simpson) Hall; brother, Wilburn Leon (Billy) Hall; son, Eric C. Smith; and sister, Henrietta Elaine Williams.
Jean leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Robert A. Smith, II, his wife Myrna; daughter, Jeanine E. English; sisters, Marva H. Carter and Marion Hall Safford; brother-in-law, Alfred F. Williams; grandchildren: Jordan, Sydney, and Chris; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other family and friends.
“I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.” – William Penn
